This is an independent inspection intended to give you a clearer picture of the vehicle before you commit to the purchase.

What I Look For
Used-car inspection beyond a quick walk-around
A short test drive or clean appearance does not always reveal the condition of the vehicle. I look for visible signs of wear, leaks, warning indicators, abnormal noises, poor operation, and other concerns that may affect the purchase decision.
Mechanical condition
I inspect accessible engine-bay components, belts, hoses, visible leaks, fluid condition, unusual noises, and other signs that may indicate current or upcoming mechanical concerns.
Steering, suspension, and brakes
I check visible brake condition, steering and suspension components, wheel and tire condition, and signs of looseness, wear, leaks, or uneven tire wear.
Electronic and warning systems
I review dashboard warning lights and perform a computer scan to look for diagnostic trouble codes that may point to current or stored system concerns.
Road Test
How the vehicle actually drives matters
When the vehicle is safe, legal, and available for a test drive, I evaluate how it starts, idles, accelerates, shifts, brakes, steers, and behaves on the road.
The road test can reveal concerns that may not be obvious while the vehicle is parked, such as vibration, pulling, noises, hesitation, rough running, braking issues, or steering and suspension problems.
Computer Scan
Check for diagnostic trouble codes before you buy
A warning light may be obvious, but stored or pending diagnostic trouble codes can provide additional information about vehicle systems that may need attention.
I perform a computer scan as part of the inspection and review relevant codes along with the vehicle’s visible condition and road-test behavior.
A scan code is not automatically a diagnosis, but it can help identify areas that deserve closer inspection before the vehicle is purchased.
Undercarriage Inspection
Look underneath before committing to the purchase
The underside of a vehicle can reveal leaks, damaged components, worn suspension parts, exhaust concerns, fluid seepage, or other conditions that may not be visible from above.
I inspect accessible undercarriage areas and note visible concerns that may affect the vehicle’s condition or future repair costs.

Buying from a private seller
Before buying a vehicle from a private seller, I can independently inspect its condition and identify visible mechanical or operational concerns that may not be obvious during a quick test drive.
Evaluating a used dealer vehicle
A vehicle being sold by a dealership can still benefit from an independent inspection. I can give you another set of eyes on the vehicle before you make the purchase.
Negotiating with real findings
If the inspection identifies worn brakes, leaks, suspension concerns, warning codes, or other issues, you can use those findings when deciding whether to negotiate, budget for repairs, or walk away.

Know what may need attention after the purchase
The purpose of a pre-purchase inspection is not to promise that a used vehicle is perfect. It is to identify visible and testable concerns so you have more information before deciding whether the vehicle and asking price make sense for you.
If I find maintenance or repair needs, I explain the concerns clearly so you can factor them into your buying decision.
What This Inspection Does Not Guarantee
A pre-purchase inspection reduces uncertainty, but it cannot predict every future failure
The inspection is based on the condition of the vehicle at the time it is inspected and on the areas that can reasonably be viewed, scanned, and tested without disassembling the vehicle.
Hidden defects, intermittent problems, future failures, internal engine or transmission wear, and conditions that are not present during the inspection may not be detectable.
